Development Trends: How Business wishlist to drive the bounceback in EV Charging Cable Market
Pune, New York, USA, November 20 2020 (Wiredrelease) Research Dive –:With the ever-evolving technology, electric vehicles are becoming more advanced. Technology has enabled the usage of unpolluted energy in motor vehicles. There are many types of electric vehicle charging cable and people get often confused while selecting the best cable for their electric vehicle. Here’s a list of different types of EV charging cables to determine the best one from.
Types of Charging Cables of Electric Vehicles
Charging cables are categorized into three types depending on their speed: Rapid, fast, and slow.
On the power output of 50kW-120kW, rapid charging cable takes almost an hour to get a full charge.
On power output of 7kW-22kW, a fast charging cable gets fully charged within 4 hours.

On power yield of 3kW, it takes 6-12 hours for a slow charging cable.
There are also direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) charging. Connectors or cables depend on the vehicle inlet port as well as the charger type in use.
Some of the cable types (from slowest to the fastest) are mentioned below:
3-Pin
These cables are also termed as Mode 1 or 2 EV charging connectors. These cables resemble to the large electric appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators. The 3-pin connector plug attached to a domestic plug while the other end works as a vehicle plug.
This cable comes with a slow charging rate.
Type 1
These single-phase plugs come with 5-pins. Popular in parts of Asia and some of European countries, this plug is mostly used with car models. Type 1 cables have a fast charging capacity.
Type 2
Type 2 comes with a 7-pin plug and it is customary for the car market of European territories. This type of cable comes with a fast charging competency. Its power output level is 3.7kW-7kW AC. The estimated range of type 2 plugs is 12.5-25 miles of charging per hour.

The inbuilt locking mechanism of these connectors ensure safety while using them at charging stations. The three-phase power facilitates the strong output of this type of connector. This feature makes it suitable for home installation.
Combined Charging System or CCS
This improved and greater variety of the Type 2 connectors. CCS plug is designed with two additional power contact points that enable rapid charging. The CCS connectors are supportive of both DC and AC charging. The power output level of these cables ranges from 50kW to 350kW.
Industrial Commando
These connectors are mostly used in Europe. These AC connectors are typically used with MK commando plugs. The plugs are readily used in high power charging of electric vehicles. This is because of their ability to network amperage and high voltage. These connectors can also withstand outdoor environment.
CHAdeMO
CHAdeMO cables are generally found at public charging stations. These connectors are well-suited with a variety of vehicle brands such as Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Mazda. These plugs comes with rapid charging capacity of almost 50kW DC every 30 minutes.
Electric vehicle charging cable market is developing because of the demand of advanced vehicles across countries for day today usage.
