Virtual Healthcare: Is it the Future?

American Fork, Utah, United States, January 12 2021 (Wiredrelease) Tork Media LLC –:Who would have thought that 2020 would bring such devastation? 0ver 1 million people died worldwide and we are still in the grip of Covid-19, although it seems we have turned the corner here in Australia. One aspect of technology that has come into play since the start of the pandemic is VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), which has enabled many businesses to continue to provide their services, particularly in the healthcare sector.

Stay at Home Orders

This was the reason why businesses began to offer virtual services, with an application such as Zoom, which gives you both audio and video with the other party. This means that you can access healthcare services, whether you’re looking for a physio in Rouse Hill or a yoga instructor in Melbourne, there will be professionals that offer virtual consultations.

Fitness Centres & Yoga Studios

While you might not be able to attend your regular fitness class, the centre would offer virtual sessions, which enable you to interact with the teacher and the other group members. If you are just doing floor exercises, then all you need is a mat and some open space, but if you are weight training, then you will need to acquire some equipment.

GP Virtual Consultations

If you are unwell for any reason, the best thing to do in our current environment is to book a virtual consultation with your local GP. As far as the doctor is concerned, there is little difference between a virtual and same-room consultation, with the exception that the doctor cannot touch you. If during the virtual examination, the doctor feels you should visit, he or she would make that recommendation, yet in many cases, the medical professional gains enough information to accurately diagnose the patient’s condition and can prescribe medication. There are some concerns about merging healthcare with AI, which is already happening in many parts of the world, but there will be many ways that AI can improve healthcare.

Online Physiotherapy

This is one area where virtual sessions are the perfect alternative to a hands-on session and all physiotherapists would now offer online physiotherapy for their patients. Once the appointment is booked, the receptionist would tell you what you need to do in preparation and if you require help with the Zoom application, they would assist you with the download and install, then show you how to join a video call.

Mental Health Counselling

It can make all the difference to a person suffering with mental health issues to have a trained professional to talk to and the lockdown should not make any difference. If you need someone to talk to and are feeling stressed, search online and you will find local counsellors who are willing to help. Mental health is something that was stigmatised and we’re happy to see that this is changing, especially with regard to men’s mental health, which was overlooked in many cultures. There is certainly a place for virtual services in the modern healthcare sector and this will gradually increase, as more practitioners adapt to online services.
