Gilead Joins OneTen Coalition Aimed at Creating 1 Million Jobs for Black Americans
Gilead has joined the OneTen initiative, a new coalition aimed at bringing together leaders from some of the largest U.S. companies to hire 1 million Black Americans over the next 10 years into family-sustaining jobs with opportunities for advancement.
Joining OneTen complements additional ongoing efforts to support racial equity and social justice, both through Gilead’s internal efforts and external programs.
Through the company’s Advancing Black Leadership Strategy, Gilead has introduced new programs to recruit, retain and advance employees at all levels of the company. The internal efforts complement external ones, including the $100 million COMPASS Initiative® and the Racial Equity Community Impact Fund, started last year to provide financial support to organizations working to tackle racial inequities affecting Black communities across the United States.
“Gilead is pleased to be part of this important commitment to hiring and promoting Black Americans,” said Daniel O’Day, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Gilead. “Increasing diversity is not only the right thing to do, it also makes for more successful organizations. We know that having a diverse workforce is essential to the kind of innovation that companies like ours depend on.”
OneTen was founded last year, with the goal of connecting employers with talent partners, leading nonprofit organizations and other skill-credentialing organizations to support the development of diverse talent.
The initiative, the largest private sector program of its kind, is particularly focused on creating opportunities for individuals who do not yet have four-year college degrees and removing structural barriers that have hindered Black Americans from joining the middle class.
