Publication of Peer Reviewed Proof-of-Concept Study Evaluating DeepView® Technology in Journal of Burn Care & Research

Results Suggest That Combination of Artificial Intelligence and Multispectral Imaging Can Play an Important Role in Predicting Burn Depth Rapidly and Accurately

LONDON, U.K. AND DALLAS, TX, U.S – June 13, 2023 - Spectral MD Holdings, Ltd. (AIM: SMD), an artificial intelligence (AI) company focused on the development of faster and more accurate medical diagnostics for treatment decisions in wound care, announces today that results from its 2018 Proof of Concept Study were published in the peer-reviewed journal, Journal of Burn Care & Research.  The study, titled ‘Clinical Investigation of a Rapid Non-invasive Multispectral Imaging Device Utilizing an Artificial Intelligence Algorithm for Improved Burn Assessment’, indicates that Spectral MD’s DeepView® technology could play an important role in aiding the earlier diagnosis of burn wounds, including indeterminate burns. The study is available at the Journal of Burn Care & Research online.

Wensheng Fan, Chief Executive Officer of Spectral MD, said: “I am delighted that the positive results from our first clinical study evaluating DeepView® for burn wound healing assessment have been published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Burn Care & Research. We believe that the need for fast, accurate, and binary burn wound assessment technology represents a critical unmet medical need. Currently, the incorrect judgement of burn depth remains common among even experienced surgeons. Moreover, specialized burn training for new doctors is becoming less common as it is no longer required during medical residency.”

Mr. Fan concluded, “The results of this study underlined the feasibility of DeepView® for detecting healing and non-healing burn tissue, and subsequent studies have continued to demonstrate its reliability and increasing accuracy compared to the current standard of care.”

Interim results from the Company’s recently completed Burn Training Study, completed in March 2023, have continued to demonstrate the efficacy of the DeepView AI® – Burns algorithm, which currently stands at 92% accuracy in determining healing vs. nonhealing tissue in burn wounds.

The Journal of Burn Care & Research is the official publication of the American Burn Association and provides the latest information on advances in burn research and education.
