InnoScot Health and British Standards Institution to share in-depth regulatory perspectives
March webinar to welcome national standards body for sharing of in-depth regulatory perspectives
NHS partner InnoScot Health will be continuing its series of interactive webinars this month with some fresh regulatory perspectives from one of the world’s largest certification bodies.
The free to join session on Wednesday 27 March is entitled Medical device regulation – perspectives of a Notified Body and will see InnoScot Health welcome representatives of the British Standards Institution (BSI), the national standards body of the United Kingdom.
The webinar will feature two guest speakers from BSI:
-
Damon Williams, Sales Manager, Medical Devices - UK & Ireland
-
Umar Butt, Business Development Manager
Taking place from 12 until 12.45pm, the session will be led by InnoScot Health’s Head of Regulatory Affairs, Elaine Gemmell, who will provide an overview of the complexities of the current landscape and outline why it is vital to receive professional advice in order to navigate it successfully.
Both BSI speakers will address key topics that affect businesses including legislation, risk, and regulatory changes while fielding questions in the latter part of the session.
Damon manages BSI’s commercial team to support new and existing clients navigate the regulatory landscape and achieve certification. With 20 years in the medical device industry and 12 years’ regulatory experience with BSI, he has helped hundreds of start-ups and SMEs gain certification and start selling their devices in the UK and EU.
Umar meanwhile facilitates the initiation of clients' medical device certification journeys by guiding them through the application and proposal phases.
BSI is recognised through a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Government, producing technical standards on a wide range of products and services.
It also supplies certification and standards-related services to businesses. These include promoting trade through the development of common industrial standards, protecting the consumer through the use of licensed marks to identify conformity to those standards, and reducing waste by simplifying production and distribution.
Elaine – who received an honorary professorship from Heriot-Watt University last year – said: “I believe this webinar will give attendees useful insight into key areas of medical device regulation while sharing lessons learnt in navigating processes.
“It will offer valuable regulatory expertise and knowledge of a kind that is helping to drive forward healthcare innovation in Scotland.
“Experience of medical device regulation is invaluable in the fast-moving world of innovation, and a vital driver of growth. Conformity remains a massive part of commercial success.
“I’m delighted to welcome Damon and Umar who will be able to offer their own UK-wide perspectives, so I expect it to be a well-rounded, informative session. Thank you to them for joining us.”
The accessible, bitesize ‘lunch & learn’ sessions are hosted on Microsoft Teams, regularly providing a platform for inspiring guest speakers whilst allowing InnoScot Health staff to share their deep knowledge and experience on innovation.
